Brief Profile  

Dr. Raghu Tata is the Chairperson of Father Arrupe Centre for Ecology & Sustainability and Associate Professor of Strategic Management at XLRI Xavier School of Management Jamshedpur. He has over 32 years of research, teaching, and consulting experience in sustainable development, the last 17 years in the Corporate Strategy- Sustainability domain. Raghu is the first faculty member from any management institute in India to offer a full course on Corporate Sustainability (since 2007). The course is designed to build student’s skillsets to integrate Sustainability into corporate governance, strategy, and decision making for win-win outcomes for all stakeholders. He also delivered corporate sustainability sessions in over 100 training programs for senior public & private sector executives.

A Fulbright Environmental Leadership Fellow at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Raghu earlier worked with the Wildlife Institute of India (www.wii.gov.in), Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (www.igidr.ac.in) and IIM Calcutta (www.iimcal.ac.in) before joining XLRI (www.xlri.ac.in) in 2006. Raghu has edited two books, published environmental governance & policy documents, journal articles, book chapters, more than 15 national/international conference papers and has consulted for the Government of India, The World Bank, Coal India Limited, etc.

Raghu has a Masters in Limnology and a Ph.D. in wildlife biology.

  2. 2013: Social Impact Assessment, Tribal Rights Compliance and CSR Action Plan of 4000 MW Odisha Ultra Mega Power Project. Consultancy done for Power Finance Corporation Limited and report submitted to the  Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.

In-Company Programs

Organized 4 training programs (Dec 2015 & Jan 2016) on the theme Good Governance for Sustainable Forest Management: Capacity Building of Forest Officers of Jharkhand. A total of 85 officers were trained in global best practices in forest management.

In partnership with MART and GIZ Germany organized a Faculty Development Program on Sustainable Business Models during Feb 20-21, 2015. The two day program was attended by about 20 professors from 10 management schools.

Conducted training sessions on Corporate Sustainability in over 40 Management Development Programs for corporate and public sector executives.
