Magis - page 3

Dear Reader,
I am delighted to present the first issue of “
Magis
”- the newsmagazine of XLRI. Magis is
a Latin term for “
more
” that was adopted by St. Ignatius of Loyola (Founder of the Society
of Jesus — Jesuits) and suggests the spirit of
generous excellence
to embrace one’s cho-
sen vocation. “
Living the Magis
” calls us to examine how our choices affect others and
guides us to make decisions that benefit the greater good. At XLRI, Magis is at the core of
everything we do for the last 65 years since inception and the spirit of Magis continually
inspires us to search for ways to create a better world for all.
"
Encouraging “Whole-Person Growth
At XLRI we strive towards “Integral formation” whereby students are encouraged to nur-
ture their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social persona to evolve as well-rounded
human beings furthering greater common good. Students are encouraged to set-up student
societies with intent to foster “whole-person growth”. Ensemble, Valhalla and other events
featured in this issue are the outcome of stupendous efforts put in by students beyond their
curriculum framework.
Sensitising Social Conscience
Students at XLRI are actively encouraged to develop empathy and understanding for the
underserved and marginalised sections of the society with a view to evolve as business
leaders who appreciate the importance of inclusive and sustainable growth. The Joy of
Giving week and other initiatives like Kshitij etc. featured in this issue are examples of
students contributing their “mite” to help the underprivileged amongst us.
Fostering Thought Leadership
XLRI hosts numerous conferences, seminars, orations etc. on a regular basis to foster and
advance thought-leadership among internal and external stakeholders. The JRD Oration,
and workshops like “Inclusive Finance” and seminars like Insight, Gnosis etc. featured in
this issue are annual events that foster and advance thought-leadership among internal and
external stakeholders.
Shaping Responsible Leaders
We hope that the articles covered in this issue give you a glimpse of our modest yet con-
scious efforts at XLRI through curriculum changes and campus culture to shape responsi-
ble business leaders who will help shape a sustainable future.
