T
he students
at XLRI
learn leadership and manage-
ment in an innovative peda-
gogical style. Understand-
ing management concepts through
adventure activities has proved to be an
incredible learning exercise.
The Outbound Programme was de-
signed to bring out the best in students
during the course of three eventful
days. The programme, organised by
Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, com-
prised overnight camping and exciting
outdoor activities. Learning the ropes
of managerial skills was never so much
fun.
Day 1:
The day began with a team exercise
that requires coordination and careful
timing among the team members. Next
was obstacle race that the teams had to
overcome as early as possible.
Lesson Learnt:
Teams work well only
when they work together. Encourag-
ing the weak links is the
mantra
for the
team to excel.
Day 2:
Students participated in exercises like
cave crawling, rappelling and flying fox
and in the process learned to trust their
team members. The day concluded
with a documentary on popular adven-
ture enthusiasts in India and their fight
against all odds to reach their goal.
Lesson Learnt:
Building trust among
team members.
Day 3:
Water sports in picturesque Dimna can
be adventurous as well as rejuvenat-
ing. The first activity was a rafting race
on professional rafts. The raft row-
ing is the best way to understand the
importance of coordinated efforts. The
students were also asked to build their
own rafts using bamboo sticks, drums
and ropes.
Lesson Learnt:
Encourage coordinated
efforts within the team for overall
growth and excellence.
