Magis, September 2014 - page 3

Dear Reader,
It is a pleasure to share the September issue of Magis - the tri-annual news magazine of
XLRI. In the month of June we welcomed 566 enthusiastic XLers across various flagship
programmes. Presently, we have around 2,000 students studying various management-
centric programmes spanning full-time, part-time and blended delivery formats. The new
adjoining world-class campus spread over 7 acres is almost nearing completion and we are
looking forward to its formal inauguration before the year-end.
Encouraging Whole-Person Growth
At XLRI we strive towards Integral formation whereby students are encouraged to nurture
their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social persona to evolve as well-rounded hu-
man beings furthering greater common good. Students are encouraged to set-up student
societies with the intent to foster whole-person growth. Valhalla - the annual sporting and
cultural meet for B-schools, the XL-IIMC Meet and other events featured in this issue are
the outcome of remarkable efforts put in by students beyond their curriculum framework.
Sensitising Social Conscience
Students at XLRI are actively encouraged to develop empathy and understanding for the
underserved and marginalised sections of the society with a view to evolve as business
leaders who appreciate the importance of inclusive and sustainable growth. The manda-
tory Village Exposure visit by new batch of students and other initiatives like Sanchetana,
which is aimed at disseminating financial literacy amongst underprivileged sections of our
society, covered in this issue are examples of students contributing their mite to help solve
the unmet needs of the society at large.
Fostering Thought Leadership
XLRI hosts numerous conferences, seminars, orations etc. on a regular basis to foster and
advance thought-leadership among internal and external stakeholders. The debut oration
by Magsaysay awardee P Sainath in the first Dr. Verghese Kurien Oration on Sustainable
Development featured in this issue are annual events that foster and advance thought-
leadership among internal and external stakeholders.
Shaping Responsible Leaders
We hope that the articles covered in this issue give you a glimpse of our modest yet con-
sistent efforts to help shape responsible business leaders of tomorrow.
