HE SIXTH
chapter of National
Industrial Relations Conference at XLRI
was a platform for some extensive discus-
sions and discerning paper presentations
on Changing Workforce and Transforming
IR Scenario. The event, organised by FIRE@X (Forum
for industrial relations at XLRI), saw participation of
industry experts, union activists and students from
premier institutes like TISS, XIMB, FMS, XISS and
IIM Ranchi.
The guest of honour, Prof. EA Ramaswamy, an emi-
nent academician, highlighted the changing aspirations
of workers. Ramaswamy, whose experience in the
field of industrial relations spans over 50 years,
said the worker concern has shifted from the benefi-
cial impact of the job for their children to their own
growth within the company. Similarly demands of
trade unions have also changed depending upon policy
changes taking place within the organisation. He
also proposed that industrial relations should be re-
phrased to employee relations, as the prior excludes
a lot of aspects.
