, a sports
festival for one-year MBA
students across India, was
organised by the PGDM(GM)
students of XLRI. The meet,
held in Jamshedpur campus,
witnessed executives from
premier management institutes
such as IIM Calcutta, Great
Lakes Institute of Management,
Chennai, and SP Jain, Mumbai,
battle against each other on the
field. At the end of the two-day
sports gala, XLRI emerged as
the overall champion, while
Great Lakes, Chennai, was
declared runner-up.
The participants put their
best foot forward at the sports
events comprising cricket,
football, basketball, volleyball,
tennis, badminton, table tennis,
chess, carrom, tug of war and
athletics. The prize distribution
ceremony on the second
day was followed by a scintil-
lating performance by rock
band Odyssey.
The online case and photog-
raphy competition were also a
part of Xlerate 2014.
T
hree days
, 12 games, over 60
participants, some nail-biting finishes
and some brilliant performances summarise
the War of the Sections. From athletics to
indoor games, from gruelling encounters on
the field to many memorable moments off
it, the event had it all.
The event kicked off with Section B
students comfortably winning a one-sided
game of carrom. Section A bounced back
with a resounding victory in chess, led by
captain Ankit.
Section B bagged high scores in badmin-
ton and tennis, while table tennis, volley-
ball, arm wrestling and basketball went in
Section A’s favour. Harshit and Swatilekha,
from Section A, emerged as fastest sprint-
ers of the batch, while the team overcame
their opponents in the
tug-of-war.
The second day netted excitement in
the dying minutes of the basketball game.
Captain Sudeep Pawar of Section A helped
the team emerge victorious with a three-
point field goal. The final day of the three-
day event saw Section B pull off the major
upset in a highly-charged game of cricket,
where captain Sunny Kalsi displayed a
stellar performance.
Section A was declared winner of War
of the Sections with an overall score of
15-5.
Fr James Santhanam distributed the
certificates and trophies to all the winners
in a prize distribution ceremony held a
week later.
