CIIYi raises pitch
for volunteerism
W
ith a
vision to contribute to the
Confederation of Indian Industry
(CII)’s India@75 initiative, the
Young Indians (Yi) team undertook a host
of activities to spread awareness about the
importance of volunteerism during the Na-
tional Volunteering Week. To create maximum
impact and spread the message effectively, the
team undertook several activities within XLRI
campus.
The team sensitised students towards the
importance of volunteerism to achieve com-
mon goals as a nation through posters, emails
and active interaction on Facebook. The stu-
dents and faculty were provided with a website
link to sign up and take the pledge to volunteer
in their desired field and location.
The CII Yi members emphasised on the im-
portance of contribution from each and every
citizen to achieve the vision of a developed,
inclusive and sustainable India by 2022, when
it completes 75 years of Independence. To
achieve this vision, it is imperative to recog-
nise, encourage and foster the spirit of volun-
teerism amongst citizens from all walks of life.
The team requested the participants to give 10,
100 or 110 percent, an hour, an off day or even
the smallest of efforts to change somebody's
life and eventually the face of the nation.
To involve the citizens of Jamshedpur, the
team set up a sign up desk at XLRI’s annual
MAXI Fair. To educate the masses about the
initiative, CII Yi members organised a flash
mob on both days of the fair. The theme for
flash mob was also focused around India@75
initiative and involved 35 students perform-
ing on foot tapping Bollywood numbers like
"
Rang De Basanti"
, "
Jai Ho"
.

International
Women’s Day a memo-
rable moment for the female
workers of XLRI the CII Yi
members organised a thanks
giving programme for them.
The members collected con-
tributions from students to
involve them in giving back to
the women who take care of
the campus and their stay. The
event was organised as a token
of appreciation of the con-
stant efforts and hard work of
these women in making XLRI
a beautiful and comfortable
place.
A half working day and
loads of fun activities were
lined up for the workers. To
know each one
of them better,
students en-
gaged them in a
game of passing
the parcel along.
The students soon joined the
game and got an opportunity
to interact with them. A game
of musical chairs followed
by a round of
antakshari
brought smile to their faces.
A day away
from work and family-related
responsibilities allowed them to
relax and enjoy their favourite
Bollywood numbers.
To mark their efforts day in
and day out, the students or-
ganised a gift pack for each one
of them. They were pleasantly
surprised at the initiative taken
by students and proudly carried
their gifts home. The day ended
with a lunch organised in the
XLRI mess.
