Activities

XLRI aims at the overall development of its students and encourages them to hone their extracurricular skills along with their academics. All activities on campus are organized and managed by the students through various committees. The Students Affair Council (SAC) is the apex body representing the student's body of XLRI. It takes care of all students activities on the campus by coordinating with the various committees formed for special purposes. There are different student committees on campus that deal with the various functional areas of management as well as personality development.


Ensemble

Ensemble an annual Inter B-School fest is the flagship event of XLRI that brings the best of the industry and the student community gets together on a common platform. A wide variety of events are organized during this mega fest, where games test the future managers in various functional areas of management and highlight their analytical skills, to nurture the spirit of innovation and competition.

A typical day at XLRI

A typical day in XLRI is about mad 200 mile per hour adrenaline rush of case studies, group discussions, fairs, examinations and mythical sports meets. There are conferences, seminars, guest lectures and workshops where a student is exposed to diverse views, opinions and ideas of many of the greatest minds in the world of business.

Indian Village Exposure Program

In this program the students are given an exposure to Indian villages. They are expected to stay study some of the practices and issues relating to rural India.

Industrial visit to local companies

Jamshedpur also know as Tatanagar being an industrial town is home to one of India's largest conglomerates, The Tatas. It contains the plants of many TATA companies like TATA Steel ( one of the world's pioneering steel companies), Tata Motors etc. A trip to the plants of these world class companies exposes the students to the actual factory environment.

Adventure Course - Outbound Training

A three-day team building programme is compulsory for the students. The objective of the programme is to develop leadership and teamwork through adventure activities. The programme includes overnight camping and other outdoor activities.

Societies on Campus

AXIOM

AXIOM is an initiative, started in 2004 by the students and the faculty of XLRI to help the students gain an insight to the intricacies of industrial and operations management. It is an attempt of this society to extend the understanding of the international best practices and implement some of the best practices at XLRI. We endeavour to spread awareness and understanding of managing production processes and delivering services through organizing seminars, guest lectures, live projects and plant visits.

CII Young Indians Chapter

The Yi movement started in December 2002, promoted byConfederation of Indian Industries (CII) and comprising of a group of young Indian achievers and professionals from various walks of life. Yi believes that young Indians can contribute to the community and society at large. Yi is a forum that focuses on issues of national importance and motivates a generational change in the economic and social agenda of India.

CRUX

Consulting is one of the key career options at XLRI with around one third of the batch taking up consulting roles. Many of the college alumni hold leadership positions in consultancy firms. A better market insight makes one a better consultant and hence research forms an important part of consulting. Realizing the significance of consulting and research at XLRI, CRUX was formed as a students' committee catering exclusively to consulting and research area.

The Marketing Association of XLRI, or MAXI as it fondly known, is the oldest committee on campus. Started over thirty years ago, MAXI's mandate is simple - popularise the field of Marketing at XLRI. This is achieved through a mixture of competitive events, talks, interaction sessions, conferences and of course, the world-renowned MAXI Fair.

ISEP seeks to facilitate this climate of international cooperation for the students, with universities abroad. ISEP thus provides students with the opportunity to join partner institutes abroad, through different programs. XLRI also ensures that students in other countries come over to campus, as this serves the dual purpose of creating a global environment in campus, and providing students abroad with hands on experience of the magic called 'India'.

The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth at XLRI brings knowledge and creates sensitivity to different Indian cultures. It organizes performances by stalwarts of Indian cultural arts and cultural events for the people of Jamshedpur. It also facilitates celebrations of Indian festivals in authentic Indian style as well as organizes various on-campus activities to promote in-house talent.

The Alumni Committee endeavors to connect, engage, celebrate XLRI alumni and build lifelong and mutually beneficial relationship with them. The committee organizes Summer Alumni meets, Alumni homecoming and Silver Jubilee meets. It also publishes monthly Alumni Newsletter and a quarterly Alumni Magazine. The committee also maintains the Alumni portal, which is a common collaboration platform for the Alumni.

Celebrations on Campus

All the rich traditions of various parts of India are celebrated with much fan-fare in the campus. Faculty, Students and Staff come together to celebrate national festivals like Diwali, Holi, Dandiya (the traditional dance festival is celebrated during the Navratri celebrations) etc. Besides these, the institute regularly hosts XLRI Institution Dinner where the XLRI faculty-student family comes together for informal get-togethers.
