The XLRI Library came into existence in 1949 when the institute was established and was named after the late Sir Jehangir Ghandy, the first Chairman of the Board of Governors of XLRI in February 1972. The library is housed in a spacious and centrally air-conditioned building on the ground floor overlooking the administrative block.
The Sir Jehangir Ghandy library strives to serve the needs of the faculty, research scholars,students, and members of the institute. It is the heart of the institute and acts as a center forthe collection of literature predominantly related to all the functional areas of managementand its allied subjects and develops a comprehensive collection with well formulatedcollection development strategy of print, digital and online resources, that is useful forteaching, research and reference purposes. As of now the Library houses a veritable collection of 63,200 books, 16,032 bound volumes of journals (some of them dating back to the days of inception), 485 national and international periodical subscriptions, 24 online databases,
14,100 project dissertations, 1,444 CD-ROMs & DVDs, 590 video cassettes, 500 company annual reports and 5,000 good collections of government publication and RBI Collection.
The Library is fully automated and equipped with the latest technology tools and procedures.RFID tags and Tattle tape are installed in each book and it facilitates check in and check out ofbooks by the users themselves without the support of library staff.
The Knowledge Portal is our unique feature which gives the platform to access entire print and digital resources of the library by a single click. It has established a full fledged Digital Resource Centre with more than 20 online electronic databases like ProQuest (ABI/lnform), EBSCO (Business Source Complete), covering 8000 journals, Emerald Insight and JSTOR Archives covering 5000+ full text e-journals, E-BRARY covering 5500 + e-books, ISI-Emerging Markets, CMIE's 12 online products, IBID, Cygnus MBA Knowledge Pack, MAGINDIA.COM, CRIS INFAC, Indiastat.com, and Supreme Count on CD-ROM (LAN). Besides, the library provides accessibility to online journals such as Elsevier, Kluwer, Springer Link, Sage Publications, Subject Gateways and info tools in domains of business and management. The Library provides specialized information services viz. Document Delivery Services, Research Assistance Services, Curriculum Support, Knowledge Counseling, Online Information Services, Reference and Referral Services, Documentation, Current Press Clippings, Current Contents Alerts, Audio Visual, Bibliographic Services, Reprographic services and User Orientations etc.
Information Technology is unarguably the defining force of this millennium, and XLRI is poised to break new ground as the most e-enabled Business School in India. The initial focus of being systemfriendly has now resulted in a virtual flood of e-initiatives. Beginning with the upgradation of infrastructure like marching towards Wi-Fi campus, supplemented by the introduction of new courses, workshops, seminars, live projects and setting up a Centre for e-Business that aims to facilitate industry academia interface, thus enabling the creation of whole new batch of tech-savy managers with the skills to integrate technology solutions to the workplace environment. The computing resources at XLRI includes latest servers and workstations, a state-of-the-art 10 Gigabitready campus network and 68 MBPS raw bandwidth WAN connectivity.
There are high-end servers, which host the XLRI Intranet Services, Library Database, Mail and SNTP server, Oracle, SAS, SPSS, DB2 and other software. Apart from value added learning of different packages, access to various database, electronic journal and software, Web hosted SAP solution for hands on ERP through University Alliance programme is also available XLRI has GIGABIT Fiber backbone throughout the campus with 10 Giga layer 3 core switch to support the Institute's local area network.
Every student is equipped with a laptop and has round the clock access to Intranet as well as Internet. Entire academic activities such as bulletin board, discussion forum, grades, feedback, leave application, course outline, electives, handouts, class schedule are made available on-line to the faculty, students and the administration.
Apart from the individual nodes, more than 300 units of Intel Core 2 Duo workstations/laptops, scanners, laser printers, close circuit surveillance camera, multimedia projectors, digital camera to serve the desk need of faculty, student computer centre, lecture halls, syndicate rooms, examination hall, auditoriums, library and various administrative offices. The institute also has its own video conferencing facility through dedicated ISDN lines and state-of-the-art IP enabled EPBX for VOIP with DID facility.
This building has air-conditioned lecture halls, an examination hall, computer centre and syndicate rooms, all of which contain access-points to the campus-wide network. Classrooms There are twelve state-of-the-art class-rooms with multimedia presentation support. The seating arrangement is amphitheatrestyle and each lecture hall seats 70 students. These class-rooms also support closed-circuit recording and play-back of lecture sessions. The four Syndicate Rooms are multipurpose areas for other academic exercises.

Student Residence facilities at XLRI consist of four residences with more than 400 rooms in all. There are two Gents Residences (The Fr. Enright Men's Residence and The St. Thomas Men's Residence) and two Ladies Residences (The Nilima Acharji Women's Residence and The Mother Teresa Women's Residence). The Residences are well-equipped with facilities such as phones, water filters, coolers and common rooms which create a homely atmosphere. Every Residence has access points linking to the Local Area Network and the various network resources and services.
The Institute has excellent residential facilities for the students of the General Management Programme. The GMP residential complex has both self-contained AC single rooms as well as the family accommodation. These rooms have 24 hours internet accessibility. Students may avail either a single room or a family accommodation according to their preference. The GMP residence is surrounded by a sprawling green park on the western side and the Dalma range of blue mountains in the eastern side with a sparkling Subernarekha river flowing on the northern side and the family residence on the southern. The GMP residence has its own catering facilities which serve variety of delicious food.
The Campus has three state-of-the-art auditoriums, fully air-conditioned. Two of these Auditoriums have a seating capacity of about 150 each. These auditoriums play host to internal student events, guest lectures and seminars, and the famed XLRI Student General Body Meetings. The Tata Auditorium, the bigger of the three, has a capacity of about 1500, and is known in music circles to have one of the finest acoustic systems in this region. The Tata Auditorium hosts all major events ranging from the Annual Convocation, the Ethics Oration and Ensemble to perform in arts and music from the finest connoisseurs from India and abroad. It has played host to a huge number of eminent personalities over the years.
'A sound mind in a sound body', is what XLRI fulfilled through its service of management education during sixty years of its glorious existence. Hence, the students enjoy the sporting facilities such as ever-green grass football field, floodlight tennis court, basketball courts and beach-volleyball court of international standard. The new S C Sarkar Gymnasium has state-of-the-art facilities for indoor badminton and equipments for workouts and exercises.In addition to the facilities on campus, students have access to swimming pools, squash courts and a synthetic athletics track - all within a very short radius from campus - through affiliations with local sports authorities.
The campus has a visiting doctor who is available during specific hours every day. Round the clock medical assistance is available through access to the renowned Tata Main Hospital, an 850-bed modern multi-disciplinary hospital which is just one km away from campus. The hospital ensures world class medical facilities to students and faculty alike.
