SIGMA has conducted events in

a wide range of sectors namely -

education, health, environment or

social sector. The year started with

Project Navoday, a legal literacy

program having an objective

of educating individuals about

basic legal rights. Volunteers

visited Bhakalpahari village near

Jamshedpur to take a session on

basic law and human rights. Two

other similar visits were conducted

in different villages with different

target groups in the month of

September 2017 and January 2018.

Going further, SIGMA celebrated

Women’s Day on March 8th, in which

the entire housekeeping and mess

staff were served with post lunch

desserts.

This year SIGMA started 2 unique

initiatives. This included a sanitation

drive, conducted on 12

th

December

2017. The theme of the drive was

to bring awareness regarding

sanitary napkins among the women

among the housekeeping women

staff. A cell donation drive was

conducted from 15

th

to 18

th

July,

2017 in collaboration with Datri, an

NGO working towards the creation

of a wide and diverse database of

potential blood stem cell donors for

terminal patients with Leukaemia,

Thalassemia and other blood related

disorders.

On the similar lines, a 2-day Eye

check-up camp in association with

Titan was conducted, as we believe

physical well-being is a cornerstone

to creating a stronger society. The

event saw a participation of more

than hundred people from students,

faculty and maintenance staff. Along

with this, SIGMA organized two Blood

Donation Drives, one in association

with Brahmananda Narayana

Multispecialty hospital & the other

in collaboration with Jamshedpur

Blood Bank. The drive saw active

participation from more than 50

donors.

Then came the week-long Joy of

Giving Fest. This time, the Joy Fest

was conducted in 2 phases in XLRI.

Donation including clothes, ration,

stationery, medicines and other utility

items were collected from entire

Jamshedpur. Events organised during

the week were:

SIGMA Activities for the year 2017-18

• Wish tree: A collection drive in

which students on the campus

pledged to donate more than

33000.

• Nukkad Natak: A street play in

collaboration with the Dramatics

and Cultural Association of XLRI

was organized. A play themed

“Corruption” was staged in front of

a busy eating point in Jamshedpur

during peak market hours.

• Pottery Workshop: Students

during the workshop created

beautiful pottery work.

• Food Distribution Drive: Team

SIGMA went to the outskirts of

the city in afternoon to distribute

freshly prepared Khichdi &

sweets to the destitute. The

volunteers from XLRI served more

than 200 people including about

70 kids.

• Health Camp: In collaboration

with Jharkhand Human Resource

Department (JHRD) health camp

was conducted on 1st Nov 2017

for the residents of Hurlung

village, situated 14 Km from

Jamshedpur. Free consultation

and medicines were provided to

the women of the village.

• Kehkaha Day: The event was

about spending time with kids.

A group of 30 students (4

th

to

8

th

standard) were invited from

an NGO Sankalp to spend a day

on campus. Many fun activities,

movie & learning sessions

sessions were organised through

the day.

• NGO Visits: This Joy Fest, SIGMA

visited 3 NGOs Cheshire Home,

Nirmal Hruday and Neev to

spend time with people from the

ignored section of the society.
