Ensemble 2013 was also partnered by
prominent corporate names like State Bank
of India, Accenture, Aircel and Cognizant
among others.
National Women Leadership Summit
was organised by Entrepreneurship Cell (E-
Cell) of XLRI in association with Google
on the first day of the festival. The sum-
mit, addressed by a host of leading women
entrepreneurs, aimed at creating awareness
on women empowerment through entrepre-
neurship and leadership development.
Super 30 founder Anand Kumar also
addressed students as part of the ongoing
festival. Kumar is known for providing op-
portunity to 30 students selected from eco-
nomically deprived sections of the society
to qualify in IITs. In 12 years he has sent
281 students to the premier engineering
institute. The three-day extravaganza was
concluded with a musical show by popular
singer Papon.

Prometheus and Banker’s
Dilemma
Prometheus, flagship activity of Finax (Fi-
nance Association at XLRI) at Ensemble,
was a two-round event with an online quiz
for eliminations and a case study challenge
for the finals. Banker’s Dilemma tested
students in simulated economic scenarios
involving financial problems which they
had to analyse and give solutions to.
ROBO WARS
Socrates (Society for the Rapid Assimila-
tion of Technology and Systems) launched
Robo Wars, a robot football competition, in
association with NIT, Jamshedpur. While
the objective was to simply score more than
the opposition, each match turned into an
intense affair, with teams jostling for posi-
tion, determined to prevent their opponents
from scoring.
XL Arena
As part of Ensemble 2013, Sportscom or-
ganised XLArena, a unique event wherein
participants were tested on their knowledge
of different sports. The first round was the
auction of players. Participants were given
a pool of various sports persons from dif-
ferent fields and were asked to place their
bids. The teams were ranked according to
the pre-decided points given to specific
players. This round required the par-
ticipants to have knowledge of players in
specific five year span of their careers.
War of Wits and Enthrone
The HR committee on campus, SAP-
PHIRE, hosted two events —War of Wits
in association with Accenture and
Enthrone.
While the first round of War of Wits
tested the general HR and OB knowledge
of the participants, the second round tested
their analytical and problem-solving skills
through a complex business case round.
A total of 383 teams from 103 campuses
including MDI, SCMHRD, TISS, XIMB,
SIBM, IMI and others registered for the
event. Of the final submissions, nine best
entries were shortlisted and invited for the
on-campus round to present their solutions
to the given case in front of the Accenture
judging panel.
Another SAPPHIRE event which gener-
ated much excitement among the Ensemble
crowd was Enthrone. The first round of
Enthrone tested the ability of students to
come up with concise answers to diverse
HR problems.
Around 26 teams registered for the event
of which seven made to the second round
of the competition. Selecting perfect venue
for promotion of one’s brand and recruit-
ing students within limited resources were
some of the situations from which the
participants had to find their way out.
Genesis National Entrepreneur
Hunt
E-Cell conducted its second flagship
event Genesis National Entrepreneur Hunt
attracting business plans from B-school
students, other educational institutes,
popular forums and from public at large.
The competition encouraged people with an
entrepreneurial spirit to stand out from the
rest and make a unique mark on the society.
Three teams were given prizes and seed
funding of upto Rs 1 lakh to convert their
business plans into functional entrepreneur-
ial ventures.
The competition was a runaway success
with 71 entries competing for the final pre-
sentation. The teams were guided by the
Mentor Board of the Entrepreneurial -Cell
and developed two business plans to vie for
the top position.
HELIOS & CASCADE
As part of Ensemble, AXIOM (Associa-
tion at XLRI for Industrial and Operations
Management) conducted its flagship event
Helios and domain event Cascade.
Helios was a simulation game where the
teams were expected to do the production
and capacity planning for a product.
Cascade involved three stages, each de-
vised to test theoretical knowledge of the
contestants in the field of operations and
supply chain. Both the events had online
prelims.
LIVELINE
Liveline by AXIOM floated two live
projects through which 10 students were
shortlisted by the companies. They were
assigned challenges to work on by Salt &
Soap Retail Ltd and Gyatk RVCR Ap-
paratus Ltd. Salt & Soap is an online retail
chain based out of Kolkata, while Gyatk is
a company that has been making strides in
the automotive industry with its variable
compression ratio technique.
