Nathan gives a
LEAD for leaders
| food for thought|
A
s strong
believers of expe-
riential learning, the students of
PGDM (GM), host the Leadership
Series, a platform for students to interact
with industry stalwarts. This event attained
a stardom status in November, thanks to
the enchanting presence of Talent Director,
Deloitte Consulting, SV Nathan.
Drawing from his diverse experience
of over 30 years, Nathan, who is also an
alumnus of XLRI, shared valuable insights
about leadership. According to him, a
leader must hear the unsaid, see the unseen
and act the withheld. Coining a very apt
acronym for LEAD (Learn, Envision,
Appreciate, Deliver), Nathan rolled out
anecdotes to emphasise the value of these
four attributes.
Through his engaging and witty speech,
Nathan persuaded the students of PGDM
(GM) to constantly check if they were
progressing in the right direction. He said
that it did not matter where one starts but
it certainly mattered where one ends in his/
her career. Emphasising the importance of
self-awareness, Nathan pointed out that a
successful leader introspects to know his/
her real self.
Sharing his work experience with
outstanding leaders including the likes of
Mukesh Ambani, Nathan brought to fore-
front the importance of passion. Quoting
American author and activist Hellen Keller
‘I lost my sight not my vision’ Nathan
noted that successful leaders have always
envisioned their goals and strived towards
them. Nathan also mentioned that business
is not done by faceless people but it is done
between persons. He mentioned that great
leaders understand their people and encour-
aged the students to hold similar ideals.
