HIS YEAR’S Utsav celebrations
kicked off with the excitement of
some brilliant catch outs, unpre-
dictable goals and clever check-
mates among other nail-biting match points
that unite audience with the players.
Futsal, an all-boys football tournament,
saw huge participation from current batches
and some alumni. The XLRI football team
was divided into groups of two, preventing
them from making their own team. This
tournament saw many exciting matches and
some unfortunate injuries, but all partici-
pants emerged with more excitement and
zeal.
While, Prof. Tata Raghuram emerged
as the winner in the badminton singles cate-
gory, the student’s chess team gave a tough
time to Prof. Indrajit Mukherjee and Prof.
Sengupta clinching a 3-1 win. Adding the
much needed thrill to the game of cricket
was a very competitive team of professors
Bollywood songs. The event was
concluded with the final year students’
bhasad
dance, known to be XL legacy.
XL-Utsav’2013 thus turned out to be an
amalgamation of varied cultures and
traditions.
Utsav is the oldest cultural festival of
XLRI organised by AcadCom (Academic
Committee) members. Most of the activi-
ties carried out by the committee involve
interaction with professors regarding
deadlines, raising concern of students to the
administration and coordinating with the
entire student community for organising
activities.
In December, AcadCom organised a case
study competition Lakshyabhed. In the first
phase of the event, a strategy oriented case
was provided to the HRM, BM and GMP
students. The event saw participation from
over 100 students.

26 runs.
If the matches were about ear-splitting
liveliness then the cultural events and
regional committee food stalls were a
delightful treat at the fest. The cultural
events saw participation from students and
children of faculty members. An impres-
sive Bharatnatyam and Odissi performance
was followed by foot tapping beats of
Tango and Hip Hop. The foreign exchange
students, visiting XLRI for the term, caught
everyone’s attention by performing on
